If a sound wave passes through a liquid or solid medium with a frequency and intensity that can bypass the impedance of the medium, this will cause the medium to oscillate. This is a simple explanation of what happens with therapeutic ultrasound – a technique familiar to most, as it has been used in medicine for more than 50 years. What most people probably don’t realize, however, is that ultrasound loses its effectiveness just a few minutes into a treatment session. The key reason behind the rapid decline and loss of efficacy is simple: While the initial ultrasound wave was able to bypass the skin’s impedance, within just a few minutes of treatment, the tissue changes its impedance. The result is a cessation of the vibration process and an end to the wave’s ability to penetrate the skin and reach the area to be treated. The difference between CellSound and all other ultrasound therapies is the specific application of an electric field. Impedance is the lock. Electrical field stimulation is the key.  The electric field manages the bio-impedance, keeping the gateways open and allowing the full ultrasonic energy to reach the affected tissue. The complex algorithms in our patented software automatically adjust the electric field, keeping the gateways clear even as the impedance changes.

 

SYNCHRONIZATION SOLVES THE PENETRATION PROBLEM

The electric field in the treatment area counteracts the body’s bio-impedance and the “packing” of tissue by the ultrasonic waves. This electric field keeps the gateways open, allowing full penetration and effectiveness of the ultrasound therapy. CellSound’s Electrosonic Resonance™ treatment provides an electric field that generates medium frequency current using 4-poles.

Prior to the introduction of muscle stimulator therapy in the mid-1950s, low-frequency stimulation was used for pain relief, muscle reeducation, and more.

The disadvantage here is that normal human skin has relatively high impedance at such frequencies. To overcome the skin impedance, a higher voltage must be used, resulting in a less comfortable treatment for the patient. In addition, the penetration depth of these currents is poor and limited, in part by the patient’s discomfort. The electric field generated by our Electrosonic Resonance™ treatment overcomes the problem of skin impedance. At 50 Hz (faradic current) the impedance for 100 cm² of skin is approximately 3,000 ohms. At 4,000 Hz (medium frequency), the skin impedance of the same area is around 50 ohms. This means that a much lower voltage signal can be used to produce the desired current, resulting in less skin sensation and more comfortable treatment.

However, this medium frequency is well outside the normal natural frequency range (0.1 to 250 Hz). To produce the required stimulation, two medium frequencies are used.
A constant frequency of about 4,000 Hz is applied to one pair of electrodes and a slightly different frequency of about 3,900 Hz is applied to the other pair. These two frequencies interfere to produce amplitude-modulated medium frequency (beat frequency) in the tissue. The tissue responds to the cyclic rise and fall in the current intensity. It is the amplitude modulation frequency (AMF) that is within the normal biological frequency range and not the medium frequency (carrier).The electrical field output signal has the following waveform:
